Motorola Solutions has been the leading provider of mission critical communications for more than 75 years. Today, our equipment is helping  build a safer world, enabling first responders to do their job safely and effectively.

Thousands of fire, police and ambulance crews worldwide rely on our rugged radios to communicate, whatever the conditions. Our technology enables command centers to quickly locate an incident, and simultaneously dispatch and coordinate crews from different emergency services. The center can send real-time information to multiple agencies and view video images of the scene to better coordinate the emergency services.

Here are some examples of how our equipment is helping first responders around the world:

• When a hurricane threatened the Houston-Galveston area of Texas, police officers enforced a mandatory evacuation of the town to prepare for the worst. Our ASTRO® 25 system connected more than 200 agencies, allowing seamless communication between emergency services. This enabled everyone to work together to prepare for the storm.
• In the Machula region of Ecuador, our digital technology is being used to enhance communication between  emergency services providers in remote areas. If a distressed caller reports a house fire in one of the many isolated communities perched on the Andes Mountains, help is sure to arrive on time. That’s because our MOTOTRBO® IP Site Connect Digital System allows firefighters to respond to emergencies much quicker than with the analog system previously used.
• Fire chiefs in Orland Park, Illinois, U.S., use a  Fireground System to monitor the status of fire fighters from the command vehicle. This helps to keep them safe in treacherous working conditions.
• Ireland’s emergency services operate on a nationwide TETRA network. If there is a road accident, for example, members of the Gardaí can call ambulance and fire crews while coordinating the diversion of vehicles. Seamless communication on the scene means faster response times and a speedier return to normal traffic.

Our  expertise  includes disaster-recovery planning. We support our customers through disasters ranging from hurricanes and floods to wildfires and terrorist attacks. Our engagement begins as soon as the event is reported and continues throughout the disaster, remaining in place during the recovery and aftermath.

The healthcare system in the developed world is facing increasing pressures including budget cuts, rising healthcare costs and the demands of an ageing population. Patients expect accurate test results and rapid treatment. Our cutting-edge technology is helping to meet these challenges, bringing improvements right across the healthcare system – from helping cut costs in complex supply chains to helping reduce errors in test results.

Using our mobile devices to scan a barcode, clinicians can access medical records and order tests from a patient's bedside. Information is instantly updated and always available which ensures that the right patient receives the right medication at the right time. Even when on the move, doctors can remotely monitor a patient's vital signs and adjust medical equipment. The result is more effective and efficient care, and enhanced patient safety.

Here are some examples of how our technology is enhancing healthcare around the world:

• Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital, China, has implemented a Motorola Solutions wireless medical system. This delivers voice and data to handheld Motorola Solutions  mobile computers used by medical professionals throughout the hospital. Patient histories, test results and even vital signs are reliably and instantly transmitted to doctors and nurses at the patient’s side. Ready access to accurate medical information leads to faster, better-informed treatment—and improved patient outcomes.
• At a multi-site hospital in the Midwest of the U.S., an aging analog two-way radio system was unable to support the communication needs of the growing staff. By switching to Motorola Solutions digital radios, healthcare providers and security officers can now communicate instantly and without interruption throughout the coverage area, improving safety and staff efficiency.
• At St Andrew’s, the U.K.’s largest charitable provider of secure mental healthcare, the safety of staff and patients is a priority. Deploying the Motorola Wireless Next Generation Architecture (RFS7000) across its four campuses allows for real-time tracking of staff protection devices both indoors and outside, helping ensure that everyone is safe.

In the developing world where the disease burden is greater and healthcare resources fewer, the pressures are even more acute. Our wireless broadband technology is helping to fill healthcare gaps in the developing world by connecting remote medical centers with main urban hospitals.

For example:

• Four remote clinics in South Africa’s Limpopo province are connected to the main hospital in the nearest city using our broadband equipment. The connection enables doctors to diagnose illnesses and instruct nurses remotely, enabling patients to receive treatment at local clinics rather than having to make the long journey, often on foot, to the main hospital.
