Education

Technology is changing education, making teaching more effective and preparing young people for a future in the knowledge economy. Our wireless technology is enabling this transformation, offering a cost efficient way to bring high speed broadband into schools and local communities.

Colleges are leading the way to a more connected world, and classrooms today are fully networked. Lectures are frequently posted online, and media-rich research material is shared in real-time between institutions.

Teachers are using online learning to personalize lessons to match the varying abilities in their classes, drawing from online libraries to introduce exciting new content and streaming video to bring inspiring experts into the classroom. The result is more engaged students and higher academic achievement.

Here are some examples of how our Motorola Solutions’ technology is changing education:

  • Serving more than 30,000 K-12 students, the Keller Independent School District (Keller ISD), in north Texas, is one of the state’s fastest-growing school districts. In 2010, Keller ISD needed a digital partner to help implement its long-term vision to improve student performance. Critical to the vision was a dependable and easy-to-use high-speed wireless infrastructure to deliver multimedia learning materials across the district’s 36 locations. Partnering with Motorola Solutions, Keller ISD utilized our 802.11n wireless LAN (land area network) solution to help deliver crisp, clear video and multimedia content. The solution provides excellent network coverage for dozens of simultaneous users who need to stream video and quickly download large files to many different wireless devices.

In emerging markets, our technology is giving students in underserved communities access to the Internet. Our networks are enabling schools to share limited teaching resources, provide remote teacher training and conduct online administration and admissions.

Here are some examples of how our technology is boosting education in the developing world:

  • The Meraka Institute in South Africa uses Motorola Solutions technology to connect 10 schools scattered in a radius of 250 miles. The Institute is a state-run organization which promotes the use of technology to improve education.
  • Municipal governments in Brazil are using Motorola Solutions technology to give more than 250,000 residents free access to the Internet. This is enhancing education in these communities by enabling students to learn online and teachers to receive training using videoconferencing facilities.
