Public Safety

The Motorola Solutions Foundation is committed to the safety of communities and security of countries around the world. Through its Public Safety and Security Institute program, the Motorola Solutions Foundation will support safety education and support programs for first responders, law enforcement officers and their families around the world in 2012. This continues Motorola Solutions long history of supporting the public safety and first responder community. As part of this program, the Motorola Solutions Foundation is accepting requests for grants between $1,000 and $15,000 that impact local communities.

Previous Grantee Examples

Through Motorola Solutions technology and expertise and the Motorola Solutions Foundation’s funding of safety and security programs, we demonstrate a firm and ongoing commitment to keeping our communities protected, our borders secure and to effectively responding to natural and man-made disasters. Examples of our public safety grants include:

Fisher House

The Fisher House program is a unique private-public partnership that supports U.S. military through donations of "comfort homes," built on the grounds of major military and VA medical centers. These homes enable family members to be close to a loved one during the hospitalization for an unexpected illness, disease or injury.

Since 2009, the Motorola Solutions Foundation has supported two Fisher Houses, one in Anchorage, Ala. and one in Bethesda, Md.

Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund

Among its missions, the Fund addresses the treatment of traumatic brain injuries (TBI) through the National Intrepid Center of Excellence, which provides services for advanced diagnostics, initial treatment plan and family education, introduction to therapeutic modalities, and referral and reintegration support for military personnel and veterans with TBI and post-traumatic stress.

In 2009, the Motorola Foundation supported the National Intrepid Center of Excellence. In 2010, the Foundation also supported Operation Mend, a UCLA program funded in part by Intrepid to provide advanced reconstructive surgical care to military men and women who have sustained severe disfiguring facial injuries during deployment in Iraq and Afghanistan.

National Fallen Firefighters

Since 2006, Motorola Inc. and the former Motorola Foundation, and now the Motorola Solutions Foundation have supported the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) to fund the Paul S. Sarbanes Scholarship Program and activities related to the annual National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend.

NFFF is a 501(c) 3 non-profit corporation created by United States Congress in 1992 to lead a nationwide effort to honor America’s fallen firefighters and to provide necessary resources to assist survivors in rebuilding their lives.  For more information on NFFF and its programs, please visit www.firehero.org.
